Shopping for a pickup truck isn’t easy; with so many makes and models out there, it can be hard to know which one will give you the kind of performance you’re looking for while also keeping you and your passengers safe. That’s why we’re comparing two of our best selling models - the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado and the 2017 GMC Sierra - with another popular favourite: the 2017 Dodge Ram 1500.
The Ram offers a reasonable amount of available torque (410 lbs - ft) but it still falls short of the Silverado and the Sierra which both offer 460 lbs - ft of available torque. The difference in engines is what really sets the Silverado and the Sierra apart. While the Ram has an available 5.7 HEMI V8 Engine, the Silverado and Sierra both offer an impressive 6.2L V8 engine (perfect for all of your towing, hauling, and rough terrain needs). The fuel economy for the Ram, the Silverado, and the Sierra all fall within the same range - around 24 to 26 MPG.
The available safety features are where the Silverado and the Sierra really get to shine; both offer 4 wheel disc brakes with Duralife brake rotors, a forward collision alert system (to warn you of any impending potential accidents), lane keep assist (to prevent you from accidentally drifting into another lane/putting yourself in danger), Cornerstep rear bumper (and pocket hand grips on the Silverado) for easier access as well as as Hydro Formed, fully boxed high-strength steel frames. The Ram, on the other hand, lacks Duralife brake rotors and has no forward collision alert system or lane keep assist options. It’s also been given a lower safety rating (4 stars out of 5) than the Silverado and the Sierra (5 stars out of 5) by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
If you’re looking for a truck that doesn’t only perform the way you need it to but that also lets you have some fun while you’re working, then the Silverado and the Sierra are the vehicles for you. Both come with 4G LTE wifi hotspots inside the vehicle, remote vehicle start, multiple USB ports to help you and your passenger stay charged and connected (up to 5 on the Sierra), an 8 inch touchscreen, and EZ lift and lower tailgate.
The Ram comes with some improved features (an 8.4 inch touch screen) but on the whole, is found lacking. There’s no wifi and only 1 USB port.
Feel like the Silverado or the Sierra is calling your name? Great! Head over to our dealership and we’d be happy to give you an in person demo of both our GMC and Chevrolet models. We’re positive that you’ll walk away a satisfied customer after experiencing the Silverado and the Sierra for yourself!
